Disposable products for the beauty industry

SMS - composite nonwoven fabric

SMS is widely used in production of hygiene products (feminine sanitary pads, baby diapers), disposable towels, wipes, etc. The structure features allow the upper layer to absorb moisture and keep it maintaining air permeability. SMS is also widely used in medicine in production of bed linen, protective clothing, surgical masks. It consists of 100% polypropylene fibers. Its distinctive feature is the presence of meltblown* material between two layers of spunbond.

SMS has found its main application in production of disposable medical clothes. The meltblown layer increases antibactericidal properties of SMS 7-10 times than traditionally used spunbond, which is very important for protection of medical personnel.

It is also used as a filter element in protective masks. Disposable headrests on planes and trains, disposable bed linen for hotels and railways around the world is made only of SMS.

* Nonwoven fabric meltblown is from polypropylene microfibers 1.5mc thick (from 0.01 to 0.2dtex). Due to the fibers thickness meltblown has significant advantages over traditional non-woven materials. They include greatly increased uniformity, both visual and physical, better coverage per surface unit, increased or total water permeability with simultaneous air permeability and high filtration properties. Meltblown is characterized by significant effect of filtration, adsorption and isolation. Application scope of the material is greatly enhanced due to its possible applying to air-impermeable substrates, such as nonwoven fabrics, textiles, etc.

СМС

Meltblown has the following properties:

  • controlled porosity with low pore size distribution;
  • wide range of engineering thermoplastics;
  • possibility of electrostatic charges;
  • possibility of ultrasonic bonding;
  • high filtration capacity at low pressure of drops;
  • high vacuum volume.

Due to the fibers thickness meltblown has significant advantages over other nonwovens:

  • greatly increased uniformity, both visual and physical;
  • better coverage due to up to 20 times bigger filament length in comparison with traditional non-woven materials;
  • increased or total permeability with simultaneous air permeability;
  • high filtration properties both in wet and dry conditions.

Meltblown and its combinations with other nonwovens are characterized by resistance to most common materials and resistance to fungi, insects and microorganisms.
